How is this different to the old (no longer for sale) version?

The 2013 edition includes enhancements for the latest Android phones and tablets available, along with UI and database optimizations to help you with your weight loss journey and will be continually updated with the latest plan features and updates needed to stay compatible with the latest versions of the Android operating system.

The old version has not been on sale since June 2012, but we have continued to provide support and due to Google policys we are unable to issue updates to it. (Click here for full details )

At the end of June 2013 the old version will no longer have the ability to use the online database, barcode scanning/submission systems and support will end. All other aspects of the app should continue to work to function as long as it remains compatible with the Android operating system you are running. (Please Note: It has not been tested or designed to work past version 2.3)

I’m getting [Error -24] when I try installing

This error is caused by a bug in Android 4.4 when the app was installed in Android RunTime (ART).

The error is caused by a latent ccom.fenlander.ultimatevaluediary folder left behind from the failed install of the app to 4.4 in your /data/data/ directory that will prevent you from installing the app again. Android does not have any UI exposed to resolve this issue. Currently the only known way to remove this file is to reset your device to factory defaults.

A bug has been reported to Google regarding this issue by Whatsapp, see here for other possible solutions and more information. A fix for the bug has been rolled out in 4.4.1, but the fix will not retroactively fix error -24.

Do you support half or decimal values instead of just whole numbers

Our app aims to recreate the plans as 100% faithfully as possible.
The modern plans do not support decimal values, they are all whole numbers:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weight_Watchers#Food_Values

Which is why our app does not support them.

How are my daily, weekly and exercise values used

Imagine everything as as three buckets.
Your first bucket is daily allowance, this you empty first when you enter food into the diary and is refilled each day.

The second bucket is exercise, you fill this up when you exercise and add it to the diary. This then dependent on mode anything left in it is emptied on a daily or weekly basis.

Your third bucket is weekly, this is bonus pool that can be used gradually over the week or in one go, this is refilled once a week.

The app will automatically use your weekly and exercise values as soon as you go over your daily allowance.

What it uses first is dependent on how you configured the application on first run, so it will either use your exercise first (recommended) or your weekly allowance.

How to use Activity Earned

Activity usage is set per the plan defaults which are “Use Activity Points On A Weekly Basis” and “Use Weekly Points Before Activity Points”.
In this mode activity points are earned over the week and form a “second bank” of points which are used once you have spent all your daily points AND weekly points.

However this is not to everyone’s taste, so like the Plan the calculator has options to change this to your ideal setting
You alter these settings by pressing “Menu” and then choosing “Settings” , here is what they do.

First option is ‘Activity Tracking’ – here you can decide whether you want to earn and use your Activity points over the week , or only on the day you earned them.

The second option is ‘Swapping Preference’ – here you can decide whether you want to use your Activity points before Weekly points.

For active people gaining activity points , most feel the diet is more effective if you choose from “Activity Tracking” – ‘Use On The Day I Earn Them Only’ and in ‘Swapping Preference’ – ‘Use Activity Points First’.

The barcode scanner or database does not have the item I am looking for

Like anything else, this application can’t have every single item in its database. We have over 500,000 items but there are hundreds of millions of foods available in the world.
If it is a barcode please use our add to database feature this data is instantly added to our database and shared with everyone else. Together we can make it so most items are found.
As always , use these look-ups as a convenience, but for pure accuracy always use the calculator.

How do I switch to different users

Currently our application does not support multiple users.

I can’t enter decimal points

Some phone makers (Sony & Samsung) and Amazon with the Kindlefire have been overwriting the default keyboard input with there own removing this option on the simplified numbers only keyboard the application uses by default.

Not to worry as since version 2.0.2 there is a special setting to help people.

Simply visit Global Settings in More and enable the “Alternative Keyboard” option. You will then get a new different type of keyboard when using the calculator that will work perfectly for you.

No Decimal Point on Samsung Galaxy Device

Unfortunately in the latest updates Samsung have hidden where the decimal point is.
Below are screenshots showing how to get to the decimal point on the Samsung Galaxy devices, or alternatively if you install the excellent Google’s own keyboard you will have a much improved input experience, this is also described below.

On the STANDARD Samsung keyboard to get to the decimal point when inputing numbers you need to press the “SYM” button.

screenshot6

To switch back to number mode press the “123” button

screenshot7

However even better is to ditch the Samsung keyboard and use Google’s own much improved and much better keyboard.

This can be downloaded from Google Play
screenshot10

Once downloaded go to Language and Input in your device settings

screenshot8

Then on the next screen turn on the Google keyboard and select it as the new default

How do I move my data to a new phone/device

First ensure both devices are running the latest version of the app.

Once you have done this please follow these steps :
On your old device
Go to “More” and choose Backup/Restore.
Then choose Choose backup.
This copys all your database to the SDCard in a directory called
com.fenlander.upcp

Then copy this folder and it’s contents to the new devices SDCard.
Reinstall the app configuring it the same as you had on the old phone.
Then go to Backup/Restore and choose Restore Database and it will be back.

If the Restore Database option does not highlight after that it is because you have located the folder com.fenlander.upcp in the wrong location on your SDCard.

This sometimes can happen as different phone makers setup the default paths for the SDCard differently.

The easiest way to find out where to locate the folder is to perform a backup on the new device and see where it makes the folder – so essentially you will end up with two directory’s.
One will be the new one in the correct location, and a second in the wrong location with your old data.

Now find both directory’s and then copy the old data over to the new location and you should be able to restore your data successfully.

Do you support simply filling plans

Our app does not natively support simply filling due to complications in identifying the specific foods in the database.

However you can still use the app do follow these plans if you are familiar with simply filling.

To do so simply set your daily allowance to zero and then manually decide when you enter foods if they have a value or not.

In the app we have also added a filling checkbox so if you are following these plans you can easily identify these foods.

How to calculate activity intensity levels

Low, moderate and high levels of exercise intensity, as measured by heart rate, are defined as follows:

  • Low (or Light) is about 40-54% MHR.
  • Moderate is 55-69% MHR.
  • High (or Vigorous) is equal to or greater than 70% MHR.

To calculate your MHR, please CLICK HERE TO VISIT another site.

For this example we will use a MHR of 170, then let’s say your heart rate measured 100 beats per minute performing a certain activity.

Since 100 is approximately 59% of the MHR (170), that would be considered a moderate level of exercise.

Rating of Perceived Exertion
A simpler method than monitoring heart rate, which also corresponds with measured MHR, is the Rating of Perceived Exertion (or RPE).

RPE is measured by having a person rate how they feel (psychological perception) when performing an activity.

The ratings of physical effort and feelings correspond with heart rate, and people can learn to exercise at a desired level of intensity based on their subjective feelings of exertion. It should be noted, however, that people who have been previously inactive tend to overestimate their intensity level, especially for moderate activity.

Level of Intensity RPE Physical Cues
Light Easy Does not induce sweating unless it’s a hot, humid day. There is no noticeable change in breathing patterns.
Moderate Somewhat hard Will break a sweat after performing the activity for about 10 minutes. Breathing becomes deeper and more frequent. You can carry on a conversation but not sing.
High Hard Will break a sweat after 3-5 minutes. Breathing is deep and rapid. You can only talk in short phrases.

In order to get the application again you will need to purchase it from a Android Appstore such as Google Play.
